Etsy Fee Calculator

Net revenue per Etsy sale.

Calculate Etsy fees per sale including listing, transaction, and payment processing fees from sale price and shipping charged.

What this tool does

This calculator estimates the net revenue you receive per Etsy sale after all platform and payment fees are deducted. It takes your sale price and shipping amount, then subtracts listing fees, transaction fees (applied as a percentage of sale plus shipping), and payment processing fees (both percentage-based and fixed components). The result shows the actual amount deposited to your account from each transaction. The payment processing fees typically have the largest impact on net revenue, followed by transaction fees. A typical use case is comparing profitability across different product price points or shipping strategies. Note that this calculation assumes standard fee structures and does not account for refunds, disputes, promotional discounts, or any fees outside the Etsy platform itself. Results are for illustration purposes only.

Etsy charges three fees per sale: a 0.20 listing fee (per listed item for 4 months), a 6.5% transaction fee on sale price plus shipping, and a payment processing fee that varies by country (roughly 4% + 0.20 3% + 0.25). All three stack - a 25 sale with 5 shipping can lose 2.50-3.50 to fees, a 10-12% total take rate.

25 sale + 5 shipping = 30 transaction base. Transaction fee 6.5% = 1.95. Payment fee 4% + 0.20 = 1.40. Listing fee 0.20. Total fees 3.55, net revenue 26.45. Effective take rate 11.8%. Plus product cost and postage actual cost, a typical Etsy seller nets 40-60% of gross sale.

Etsy Ads and Offsite Ads add more. Offsite Ads (Etsy's automatic paid ads on Google/Facebook) charge 12-15% on attributed sales - opt-out is only available for sellers under 10k lifetime. Most successful sellers price products with a 20-25% markup above standard margin targets to absorb all these fees without undercutting themselves.

Run it with sensible defaults

Using sale price of 25, shipping charged of 5, listing fee of 0.2, transaction fee of 6.5%, the calculation works out to 3.55. The defaults are meant as a starting point, not a recommendation.

The levers in this calculation

The inputs — Sale Price, Shipping Charged, Listing Fee, Transaction Fee %, and Payment Fee % — do not pull with equal force.

How the math works

Total fees = listing + (sale+shipping) × transaction % + (sale+shipping) × payment % + fixed payment fee. Net = sale + shipping - fees.

What the score tells you

Headline financial numbers — income, savings, debt — each tell part of the story. This calculation stitches several together into a single read you can track over time. The value is in the direction, not the absolute number.

What this doesn't capture

The score is a composite of the inputs you provide. Life context — job security, family obligations, health, housing — doesn't appear in the math but shapes the real picture. Use the number as a prompt, not a verdict.

Example Scenario

££25 + ££5 shipping × 6.5% txn + 4% payment + ££0.2 listing = 3.55.

Inputs

Sale Price:£25
Shipping Charged:£5
Listing Fee:£0.2
Transaction Fee %:6.5
Payment Fee %:4
Payment Fee Fixed:£0.2
Expected Result3.55

This example uses typical values for illustration. Adjust the inputs above to match a specific situation and see how the result changes.

Sources & Methodology

Methodology

The calculator computes net revenue by summing all fees deducted from a sale. It applies the listing fee as a fixed amount, then calculates transaction fees by multiplying the combined sale price and shipping amount by the transaction fee percentage. Payment fees are computed in two parts: a percentage-based component applied to the same combined amount, plus a fixed per-transaction fee. Total fees are the sum of all four components. Net revenue equals the sale price plus shipping charged, minus total fees. The model treats all fee rates as constant and assumes fees are charged independently without compounding or tiering adjustments. It does not account for Etsy's shop subscription tier variations, promotional fee discounts, refunds, chargebacks, or currency conversion costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does shipping count toward transaction fee?
Etsy added shipping to the transaction fee base in 2022 to prevent sellers inflating shipping and underpricing products to avoid fees. You can no longer charge 5 product + 20 'shipping' to dodge the 6.5%.
What about Offsite Ads?
Etsy automatically advertises listings off-site (Google, Facebook, etc). If a customer clicks and buys within 30 days, you pay 12-15% of that sale on top of standard fees. Sellers above 10k lifetime can't opt out. Factor this into pricing if you exceed that threshold.
Is Etsy profitable for handmade?
Varies. Low-ticket items (5-15) struggle because fixed fees (0.40+) eat a high proportion. 25+ items work well. Digital products (no shipping, no materials) are best - margins often 80%+ even after Etsy fees.
Alternatives to Etsy?
Shopify (3-4% total fees but no built-in traffic). Amazon Handmade (15% fees but massive traffic). Own website with Stripe (3% fees, all traffic self-generated). Most sellers use Etsy for discovery and their own site for repeat customers.
